Jackson, Mich. (WKHM) — Two people were in serious condition following a car vs pedestrians incident on Airport Road.
At approximately 6:49 a.m. Monday morning, the Blackman-Leoni Department of Public Safety (DPS) responded to a vehicle–pedestrian collision on Airport Road near Wayland Drive.
Upon arrival, officers and emergency personnel determined that a northbound vehicle struck two pedestrians who were attempting to cross Airport Road near the Wayland/Meijer traffic light.
Both the driver of the involved vehicle and a witness reported that the northbound vehicle had a green light at the time of the crash. It was still dark outside, and investigators believe that visibility conditions may have been a contributing factor.
The pedestrians, a 33-year-old male and a 20-year-old female, both sustained serious injuries as they were walking to work.
The male victim was ultimately transported by air to Henry Ford Hospital in Detroit, while the female victim was transported by ground to the Henry Ford Jackson Emergency Room by Jackson Community Ambulance.
At this stage of the investigation, officials say that speed does not appear to be a factor, and the vehicle is believed to have been traveling within the posted speed limit.
Based on authorities’ initial findings, the pedestrians appear to have entered the roadway against the traffic signal.
The DPS continues to investigate this incident, and anyone who witnessed the crash or who may have additional information is encouraged to contact them at 517-788-4223.
