Jackson, Mich. (WKHM) — – At approximately 11:00 p.m. Wednesday night (October 22), the City of Jackson Fire Department (JFD) responded to a reported commercial structure fire at 152 W. North Street, the site of the former Air Master Factory. The location had experienced a previous major fire in 2023.
Upon arrival, crews encountered heavy smoke and flames showing from the second floor of one of the remaining buildings on the property.
Firefighters were able to successfully contain the blaze to the second floor and preventing it from spreading to adjacent buildings within the complex.
The incident was elevated to a third alarm due to the size of the structure and the resources required to bring it under control.
The fire was located in a large room on the second floor in the far north section of the 50,000-squarefoot facility, which had formerly been used for office space.
Crews remained on scene for around four hours, with all personnel cleared by 2:00 a.m. No firefighter injuries or equipment losses were reported.
The Jackson County Disaster Assistance Response Team (JDART) also responded to the scene to provide support. The cause of the fire is still under investigation, and the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) was notified as a precautionary measure.
The JFD thanked all assisting agencies for their cooperation and effective response in helping to contain the fire and protect nearby properties.
Assisting agencies included the Summit Township, Blackman Township, Napoleon Township, Spring Arbor Township, and Henrietta Township Fire Departments, along with callback personnel from the Jackson Fire Department.
